Midnight Inbox Touch for iPad

Processing your notes

Decide what you're allowing into your life

What’s the fuss all about?

Midnight Beep Softworks seriously loves their iPads. We think the iPad version of Inbox Touch is the best GTD application out there for any platform. You can buy it on the App Store here. It’s 50% off while we get syncing with the soon-to-be-released Mac version 2 up and running. An iPhone version is also in the works.

• Full GTD workflow: Collect, Process, Organize, Review, Do
• Powerful View features let you customize what you see while you’re Doing
• Share your lists with others over email

Why it’s great

We know there are lots of choices for to-do lists on iOS. They’re almost all either way too simplistic or far too bewildering. Either way they interfere with actually getting things done. Midnight Inbox Touch is carefully, obsessively, meticulously designed to be just enough GTD to run your life and feel lightweight. It’s all about balance.

What you get which you can’t get anywhere else: personal attention

Midnight Beep is committed to personalized support. If you have a license, you get lifetime support via email at support@midnightbeep.com. We’ll help you figure out how to move forward with our tools on whatever you’re facing.

Thunderbird, Entourage, etc., on the Mac?

Midnight Inbox Collects email from Apple Mail quite well. Microsoft’s changes to Entourage over the years have made it harder for Inbox to Collect from Entourage directly, though it still can. So how do I use Thunderbird, Entourage, or some other email package successfully with Midnight Inbox 1?

Many users do the following:

Set up Apple Mail with rules so that one mailbox holds the email you want Collected into Inbox
Let Mail run in the background (just ignore it)
Continue to use some other email package, like Thunderbird
Process the email you want from Mail, and let Mail sync up your accounts without you worrying about it

Simple!

Plan your day’s Actions

Yesterday I posted about adding notes, not actions, and not “just working” until you have a clear idea of what it is you are to do.

Assuming it IS clear, though, how do you make sure your day’s tasks get done?

First, remember, “Don’t Do Anything.” Seriously. Before you start working, map out your day. Take 5 minutes, or less. I brain dump these Actions (hit ‘+’ then Action) as quickly as I can, every morning. (Sometimes even the evening before.) Midnight Inbox keeps these all in one place, at the top of my Midnight Inbox lists. They’re Single Actions, and MI keeps them right at the top.

This habit also builds thinking about what I’m going to do into my process. Sometimes they turn out to be Projects, not Actions, and so I make them into Lists as the day goes on.

Got a questions about using Midnight Inbox? Email me at support at midnight beep dot com.

Best,

Mark

Don’t do anything. On second thought, just do it now.

How to be incredibly productive in two easy steps:

  1. Don’t do anything.
  2. Just do it.

It’s simple, really. In this age of infoglut, it’s really easy to just start working on something in front of you, put your proverbial shoulder to the grindstone, and before you know it it’s five o’clock and (most likely) you’ve got something done.

But here are the two questions, simple in the asking, powerful enough to send you down a self-doubt spiral: Was that the right thing to get done? Are you sure?

The trick is to not do anything until you have a clear idea of what it is you should be doing. Don’t start working until you know what you’re working toward.

If you haven’t figured that out, then that’s your first task. No matter what, the first thing to do is to know what to do, in relationship to everything else. Take a vacation day, go for a long lunch, whatever–but don’t start the laundry, the work project, or your life until you have some semblance of a plan.

Then, of course, just get started. Just commit to 10 minutes, or an hour, or a low-hanging, doable-seeming milestone. See how it feels to not be fighting yourself about what you should be doing. Enjoy it. Celebrate progress, no matter how minor!
